The education program for the 2019 ATSA Independent Living Expo has been released and is now available online.

Clinical consultant and educator at Astris Lifecare, Tracee-lee Maginnity returns to the Sydney and Brisbane Expos to explore the product features of one of the fastest growing Assistive Technology (AT) mobility options: power add on units. With so many now available, and with very different operational accesses, Maginnity will discuss the clinical applications that drive the justification and explore the features of each type of power add-on and the clinical reasoning processes used to guide the prescription. She will share real stories to highlight some of the various ways the prescription of a power add-on has enabled users to meet goals.

Occupational therapist Narelle Higson also returns to both shows this year to discuss equipping intimacy, outlining a range of AT – from the commonplace to the more unusual – which may be useful to support sexual expression and intimacy, both inside and outside the bedroom. Higson will also discuss strategies to assist with problem solving solutions to common challenges.

Another speaker at the Sydney expo is GTK general manager and occupational therapist George Ajaka who will  discuss how sleep systems can help participants reach their NDIS goals. The benefits of a good nights sleep applies to everyone but is often overlooked among people with disability.  Ajaka will also detail the importance of supportive positioning towards quality of sleep, tone and posture management, thermal regulation and day time function. Examples of successful applications highlighting the achievement of NDIS goals will be provided.

Alongside the speaker line-up will be more than 100 exhibitors. The expos takes place in Sydney from Wednesday May 8 – Thursday May 9 and Brisbane from Wednesday May 15 – Thursday May 16.

All education sessions are held adjacent to the expos, are free to attend and open to all visitors!
