National not-for-profit Youngcare is hosting its second Giving Day to raise funds to continue to develop Specialist Disability Accommodation and grants programs for young people with disabilities and their families.

For 12 hours from 9am to 9pm, on Thursday, September 23, every donation to the charity will be matched by Youngcare partners including foundation partner Suncorp, sponsors AAMI and the Morgans Foundation with the goal to raise more than $500,000.

Youngcare CEO Anthony Ryan said the Covid-19 crisis has impacted young people with disabilities more than most, as this cohort continues to be locked down in unsuitable conditions for months on end, without access to age-appropriate care.

“No young person should be living in institutionalised accommodation like aged care, where they have little to no control over how they spend their days,” he said. “We are encouraging Australians across the country to take a stand and help us ensure that every young person can live with independence, choice and dignity, both how and where they choose.”
