APEX Mobility and North American wheelchair manufacturer Motion Composites are launching Wishes for Wheels in Australia.
Wishes for Wheels is a transformative program that aims to give freedom, dignity, and independence back to individuals who lack access to life-changing assistive technology.
Starting June 2025, one recipient will receive a brand-new ultralight, custom-fitted Motion Composites manual wheelchair every three months, free of charge.
Empowering through mobility
“At APEX Mobility, we believe that a wheelchair is more than equipment – it’s freedom, confidence, and the power to live on your terms,” said Michael Gage, director at APEX Mobility.
“Wishes for Wheels allows us to reach individuals who are often left behind by traditional funding systems and provide them with access to some of the most advanced, high-performance wheelchairs in the world.”
Juan is a past Wishes for Wheels winner from Louisville, Kentucky. He said the Motion Composites wheelchair transformed his daily life.
“It wasn’t just a chair – it was the key to getting back into the world. I can move with ease, I feel more independent, and I can do things I never thought possible again.”
How it works
Wishes for Wheels is open to anyone in Australia who:
- Is a current manual wheelchair user or in need of one
- Cannot access or fund a high-quality ultralight wheelchair through traditional means
- Can demonstrate how a new wheelchair would improve their mobility and quality of life
Applications open close 24 August for the first round. The recipient will be announced on 8 September, with the wheelchair fitted and scripted by 30 September.
Wishes for Wheels is a quarterly initiative, and individuals are encouraged to reapply each round if not selected.
Apply or nominate someone via the official online form.
