Students at STEPS Pathways College completed their annual Steps for STEPS fundraising walk recently and raised $58,271.85 for its Pathway Charity. The organisation helps adults with disability the opportunity to live an independent life.

Students raised more than $20,000 with people honking and jumping out of their cars along the 20km route to donate, calling up and pledging on live radio and also donating via the online portal.

The walkathon was presented by 92.7 MIX FM, breakfast duo Mark and Caroline who broadcast the event live as they accompanied the students starting at the MIX FM studios in Maroochydore before arriving at the college in Caloundra.  There were a number of pitstops along the journey where walkers met with local businesses who supported the event.

STEPS Pathways Charity executive manager Michael Williamson said excitement has been building at the college over the past few weeks, as students thought of clever ways to garner as many donations as possible. “Steps for STEPS is one of the highlights on our calendar every year and it’s amazing to see how involved the students get,” he said.

A total of $56,000 was raised for STEPS Pathways Charity last year, and the team were hoping to go one better in 2023. And they did!
