A new online learning resource for people with intellectual disability is available now and it’s free.   Person Centred Active Support is an evidence-based approach to help those with intellectual disability develop social relationships and take part in meaningful activities. It encompasses person centred planning, person centred thinking and positive behaviour support.

“Every Moment Has Potential” is the online training resource that introduces disability support workers to the four essentials of Person Centred Active Support. It comprises five learning modules that can be used with everyone regardless of their degree of intellectual or physical impairment. The modules cover lecture and activity videos, exercises, organisation support and training. A workbook, facilitators guide and additional resources are also available.

The resource, which can be viewed from a smartphone, tablet or computer, was developed in collaboration with Greystanes Disability Services and La Trobe University Living With Disability Research Centre. It is based on research that originated in the UK in the early 1960s when the disengagement of people with intellectual disability was a major problem. Taking this person-centred approach has been shown to improve the quality of life for people with an intellectual disability.
