A Sydney expo of NDIS service providers had competition from heavy rain and a nearby Wiggles concert. But it did not dampen the enthusiasm of around 90 visitors who attended this, the second of four expos organised by the Northern Beaches Council on March 30.
Council disability information officer, Marjorie Janz, told F2L the visitor response was excellent because it presented an opportunity for face-to-face discussions with service providers and NDIA staff who could answer questions regarding eligibility and preparing the first plan. Janz said there were many challenges around the NDIS: “It is a new program, a new attitude and people are not sure where to go for advice. Due to the volume of NDIS applications, there are delays with getting plans prepared and activated”.
Over 40 service providers were at the expo as well as suppliers including Ability Technology, Mobility Engineering and TAD Disability Services. Information by staff of the NDIA, Local Area Coordination and Ability Links was complemented by seminars addressing services for children, students, and adults.
The next expo will be held at the Dee Why RSL in October, followed by another in March 2018.
