IGA and SUPA IGA supermarkets in NSW and the ACT are raising funds for games athletes. Until November 19, the supermarkets are selling ‘Supporter Medal Stickers’ to help the 400 athletes representing Australia in the 2013 Special Olympics Asia Pacific Games.  Each athlete needs to raise $2400 to get to the games. Customers buying the stickers write their name on the medal and place in on the ‘Wall of Fame’ in stores that feature their local Special Olympics athlete.

The games will be held in Newcastle from November 30 to December 7 and brings 32 nations from the region to  the largest multi-sports event for people with an intellectual disability ever held in Australia.

IGA has been supporting Special Olympics Australia for 21 years, providing sporting and lifestyle opportunities for people with disability in communities across the country.

The Special Olympics movement supports over four million athletes in 170 countries, with the Asia Pacific region now the fastest growing in the world.
