National not-for-profit organisation Youngcare has whipped up its #YOURCAKE Challenge for a second year, calling on Australians to bake and decorate a cake for its fundraising campaign for disability housing, equipment and home modifications.

From May 21 – 29, #YOURCAKE Challenge bakers will choose their favourite cake from the Australian Women’s Weekly Children’s Birthday Cake Book.

Youngcare CEO Greg Johnson said the cake challenge is a great activity for friends and family members to get together and bake, while raising awareness and funds for young Australians with high physical support needs.

“More than 3,800 young Australians with disabilities are stuck in aged care simply because they have no other options. Our mission is to give young people the opportunity to choose where they live, who they live with and how they live their lives in their communities,” he said.

For 29-year-old Stephanie Pidd, pictured, who lives with Ataxia-telangiectasia and is non-verbal, Youngcare has given her the independence to enjoy her life in the community, including attending her horsemanship course. Stephanie is participating in the challenge with a bit of help from her father, baking the childhood favourite swimming pool cake.

To help budding bakers kick start their #YOURCAKE Challenge, Youngcare is giving away a ‘Baker Starter Pack’ full of baking goodies to the first 100 bakers who raise $100, thanks to the Australian Women’s Weekly, White Wings and CSR Sugar.
