New guidelines on wheelchair seating and seating support surfaces have been announced. The guidelines have been developed to improve the care and comfort for people who use wheelchairs.

Because of the inconsistency in the terms that are used to describe and measure wheelchair seating, parameters adopting standardised measures is now a priority for the industry.

An international team has put a set of clinical guidelines around the 2006 ISO standard for measuring body posture and postural support surfaces in wheelchair seating.

To introduce the new guidelines a workshop presentation for occupational therapists, physiotherapists, rehab engineers and suppliers is being held at the Independent Living Centre in Brooklyn, Victoria on October 17. For details go to: https://ilced.yooralla.com.au
