It was a Covid vaccination with a difference with something distinctly ‘royal’ about one of Melbourne disability services organisation VMCH’s vaccine sessions recently.

Members of the Royal Australian Navy (RAN) visited the Austin Street residence, home to younger people with acquired brain injuries, to administer their vaccines, along with 43 other VMCH staff and Board members.

VMCH regional manager for clinical support, Kaylene Bradford said it was smooth sailing for the vaccinations, with residents impressed by their new military friends.

“The Navy members were very kind and added a bit of excitement to the day. The residents applauded their efforts and presented them with a box of chocolates afterwards,” she said.

The RAN will return in five to 12 weeks’ time to administer the second dose.

Austin Street residents join around 400 other VMCH disability clients, aged care residents and staff members who have already been vaccinated.
