AT company Permobil and disability services organisation IDEAS are doing their bit to assist people affected by the bushfires.
People who have lost assistive technology items during the bush fires might be able to get a loan from Permobil while waiting for a replacement product. The offer applies to power or manual wheelchairs, specialised seating and pressure care cushions and mattresses. These are available to AT users of all brands, including Permobil.
The loan will depend on individual clinical needs so assistance might not be possible in all cases, however every effort will be made to accommodate requests, a Permobil spokesperson told F2L.

IDEAS have also launched a bushfire crisis relief exchange website for people with disability to access equipment and non-perishable consumables.
The website, eBility Bushfire Relief, consolidates information for people with a disability and provides access to essential items and equipment, such as wheelchairs, walkers and scooters, during and following the bushfires.
IDEAS executive officer Diana Palmer said the website is a grassroots initiative to support people with disability to recover from bushfires. “By facilitating the community to list items that are readily available, we can fast track access and protect the mobility and dignity of anyone in need. Our matching service means that goods can be as close as possible to the individual’s needs without delay and issues with warehousing, manhandling and distribution.
Items listed on the site have been donated or lent out free for the use of people with disability affected by the current bushfire crisis. People with disability can also request wanted items, listing the essential equipment and gear needed to recover from the bushfires.
