To make it easier for people with limited mobility to see the accessible experiences on offer in parks around the state, Parks Victoria has released the first in a series of short videos.

This video focuses on some of the best ‘all abilities’ experiences at Wilsons Promontory National Park in Gippsland.

It was produced and narrated by park visitor and wheelchair user, Ryan Smith and provides a first-hand account showcasing and reviewing the accessible features and facilities of the park with practical information that visitors with low mobility may require.

According to Smith the videos show the resources he wanted as a wheelchair user when planning a visit somewhere.

“Information provides confidence especially if you have limited mobility and you’re arranging a trip,” he said. “Video is a great format as it allows viewers to see for themselves the factors important to their situation and to view an environment based on their abilities.”

The video focuses on the accessible Loo-Errn walking track, access to Norman Beach and accessible park accommodation. It also includes information on visitor equipment available to borrow free of charge at Tidal River in the park, such as the beach wheelchairs, the all-terrain TrailRider chair and accommodation equipment.

It is the first of a series of 10 videos to be released by Parks Victoria in coming months, featuring other ‘all abilities’ walks and experiences in parks.
