People with low or no vision can access a new Braille Emergency Evacuation Information Pack (BEEIP).

The kit has been designed to help people in an emergency such as fires, floods, severe storms, cyclones or earthquakes. It gives a list of things to include in the braille pack which should be placed where it is easily accessible and show the name of the person on reflective tape so it can be seen at night.

The kit is not designed to replace any information that people may already have but highlights the importance of planning and preparing an evacuation pack as part of a larger safety plan.

It has been developed with the assistance of the NAB Foundation to enhance the safety of all Australians, including those who are blind or have low vision.

It suggests that people with low or no vision have a plan to stay safe and discuss this with their personal safety network such as friends, family, carers etc.

The packs, which are free, will be available to fire and emergency services in each state or by request on email: admin@qbwa.org.au
