The funding cloud that was hanging over the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) has lifted with the Federal Government now fully committed to supporting the scheme.

A stronger economy and an improved Budget fiscal position means the proposal to increase the Medicare levy and other measures won’t happen. The government was looking at options to cover the $56 billion funding gap and has come up with another option, Minister for Social Services, Dan Tehan said.

“Australians did not want to see political games over the NDIS they just wanted it to be fully funded and providing support to Australians who needed it.”

Treasurer Scott Morrison also confirmed the NDIS will be fully funded and guaranteed by the Turnbull Government. “The focus is now on delivering the NDIS in the most efficient and effective way,” he said.
