The Australian Law Reform Commission is inquiring into legal barriers for people with a disability. The inquiry will examine laws and legal frameworks within the Commonwealth jurisdiction that deny or diminish the equal recognition of people with a disability as persons before the law and their ability to exercise legal capacity.

It will consider whether changes could be made to Commonwealth laws and legal frameworks to address these matters.

Children with Disability Australia (CDA) has met with representatives of the Commission undertaking the inquiry to outline some of the considerations relevant to children and young people with a disability. CDA will lodge a written submission in the future. The final report is due in August 2014.
