Ready Steady Golf, supported by Variety WA and the WA Golf Foundation, is offering an expanded free golf lesson and activity program in Western Australia during the October school holidays.

Kids who want to try a new sport can register for the Ready Steady Golf Children’s Golf Program, where attendees will learn golf skills to suit their individual ability in a fun, friendly and supportive environment.

Variety WA Chief Executive Officer Chris Chatterton said participating in sport provides many benefits for children and young people.

“There are emotional and mental health benefits as well as supporting physical health and wellbeing. We hope this fabulous program appeals to children with a wide range of additional needs and golf is fantastic for people who prefer individual over team sports,” he said.

Who will run the program?

The program will be run by accomplished golf professional and teacher, Mark Tibbles, who is the newly appointed Golf Coordinator for Special Olympics WA.

Supported by the WA Golf Foundation, the inclusive kids golfing program was first established byTibbles in 2010. He is excited to expand the program to reach more children.

“I’m committed to increasing opportunities for people with disability in Western Australia, and these classes can ultimately provide pathways to mainstream programs, golf club memberships and competitive golf,” he said.

What are the details of the golf program?

There will be two workshops of the Ready Steady Golf Children’s Golf Program each week of the holidays on Thursdays and Fridays, for age groups 5-10 and 11-17 with a maximum of eight children per session with two coaches per session. Support workers are also encouraged to assist.  Sessions for children aged 11-17 years will be held on Thursday 2 and Friday 10 October, and sessions for kids aged 5-10 years will be held on Friday 3 and Thursday 9 October.
