Family Planning NSW is making its specialised Sexuality and Disability psychology service available across NSW via telehealth. The service delivers tailored therapy for people with intellectual disability, autism spectrum disorders, acquired brain injury and paraplegics.

“This is a highly sought after service and we are excited it will now be accessible for everyone in NSW who would like to access it,” operations manager regional clinics, Tilly Armstrong told F2L.

It provides a tailored program to each individual based on their needs and goals in relation to reproductive and sexual health across a range of areas such as:

  • Healthy relationships
  • Puberty
  • Contraception options
  • Menstruation management
  • Pregnancy options.

“We have a thorough process to ensure the service is suitable for each client, and we work together with the individual and any relevant support people to ensure they receive the support they need,” she said.

After the appointment is made clients receive information on how and when to connect to the session remotely over video, which can be done from either their home or any location that suits them.

All psychology sessions are included in an NDIS plan with no out-of-pocket expenses with other funding options available if a client does not have an NDIS plan in place.
