Universal Design People & Transport Webinar

October 13, 2020

With the Disability Transport Standard up for review, a special webinar, People and Transport, is timely.

If people want to get out and about they need transport. Whether it’s walking, driving, flying, or taking public transport they can’t live without it. Transportation is the link between all activities once leaving the front door. But what if transport is difficult or impossible?

Transportation isn’t just planes, trains and automobiles. It’s the whole journey from front door to destination and back again. Whatever the journey it requires infrastructure – from footpaths to bus stops, from train stations to airports. It also requires information services and people who can answer questions. But what if transport infrastructure and services are not designed for everyone?

Access and inclusion issues will be addressed in this webinar using practical examples and personal experience. Australia is currently preparing a review of the Disability Transport Standards and Australian Department of Infrastructure assistant secretary, Lee Steele will bring webinar attendees up-to-date on progress.

Other program speakers who are experts in their field will discuss the direction of accessibility and transport and include:

  • Penny Galbraith, construction specialist and access consultant
  • Michael Walker, principal advisor Universal Design, Victorian Health and Human Services Building Authority
  • John Evernden, civil engineer and access consultant

Being able to get out and about should be easy for everyone so this event is not to be missed.
