FlickrFriday #33: Business as usual

A scheme to encourage workers with disability to join the Australian Public Service came into effect on January 1. RecruitAbility is an initiative of the As One – Australian Public Service Disability Employment Strategy. It has been designed to attract and develop applicants with disability and also facilitate cultural change in selection panels and agency recruitment. People with disability are significantly under-represented in the APS and also experience more limited career progression.

While RecruitAbility is not compulsory all ASP agencies are encouraged to adopt the scheme which can be applied to all APS vacancies including SES roles. Job applicants with disability who opt into the scheme and meet the minimum requirements of a vacancy advertised are advanced to a further stage in the selection process.

The new selection process was adopted by the Diversity Council last November following a pilot of the scheme that started in 2012.
