At this years’ Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, there were plenty of innovative accessibility devices to check out.

When comes to hearing devices the Eargo 6 introduced a new feature. Called Mask Mode it claims to eliminate the muffling effect that mask-wearing causes, which can make it difficult for those with hearing impairment to interpret sounds. Other features in the Eargo 6 include water resistance, auto-adjustment and a small form factor. RRP is US$3,000.

Deep Optics introduced the 32ºN adaptive focus sunglasses that avoid having to switch sunglasses to reading glasses as they can adapt focus with a simple finger swipe over the temple piece. No other adjustments are needed.  Available in four frame colours, the sunglasses cost US$499.

When people with dyslexia read, they see a mirror effect on the page, making it difficult to decipher letters and words. The portable Lili Lamp claims to combat this by producing ‘imperceptible lights and flashes’ that negate the mirror effect. Based on French research the technology emits flashes of light, almost invisible to the naked eye, making the perception of writing more precise so reading becomes smoother, faster and less tiring.  RRP is US$$395.
