Astris PME has announced its acquisition of Specialised Wheelchair Company (SWCO), a long-standing provider of wheelchairs, seating systems, and custom mobility solutions across New South Wales and the ACT.
Founded in 1972 by Michael Ford as the Australian Surgical Aid Centre, SWCO has been at the forefront of supporting people with disabilities for more than five decades. Under the ownership of Iain and Rhonda Hogg from 2000, the company focused on high-quality wheelchairs, seating systems, and other scripted assistive technology, with workshops and demonstration facilities in Sydney, Newcastle, and Canberra.
After the Hoggs’ retirement in 2023, the company became part of the Country Care Group.
SWCO general manager Alison Muir said the move to join Astris PME represents a strong step forward.
“Becoming part of the Astris PME network enables us to leverage their knowledge, infrastructure, and national reach. Astris PME has already been supporting our teams locally, and by working together we can provide even greater service to therapists and equipment users.”
Astris PME CEO Steve Joyce welcomed the SWCO team and and its clients.
“Specialised Wheelchair Company has transformed the lives of countless people living with a disability across NSW and the ACT for many years. We are thrilled to welcome them to Astris PME, strengthening our ability to deliver an even wider range of products, services, and local support.”
