Cumberland City Council is highlighting the success of its Seniors Club Cumberland project and celebrating its Seniors & Disability Services team.

It comes ahead of Aged Care Employee Day on 7 August 2025.

In January 2025, Cumberland City Council was one of only eight councils across New South Wales to be awarded funding through the NSW Government’s Connecting Seniors Grant Program 2025.

Using this $30,000 grant, the council implemented the Seniors Club Cumberland project, a series of free community programs designed to reduce social isolation and foster meaningful connections among seniors in Cumberland.

Engaging Seniors Club

Since its launch in March 2025, Seniors Club Cumberland has seen 100 participants actively engaging across four locations in Cumberland. Each group meets on a set day each month. The groups aim to connect seniors, reduce isolation, and foster lasting social bonds.

A final celebration event in December 2025 will bring together all participants to celebrate the achievements of the program and the friendships formed over the year.

Cumberland Mayor Ola Hamed said she is proud of the outstanding contributions made by the Seniors & Disability Services team that runs the club, and whose dedication continues to uplift the community.

“The success of the Seniors Club Cumberland project is a testament to [the team’s] unwavering dedication to improving the lives of our seniors. As a council, we are proud to witness the powerful impact these programs have in reducing isolation, building connections, and empowering our older residents to live their best life. This Aged Care Employee Day, we celebrate their tireless efforts and the incredible difference they make every day,” she said.
