Supermarket group IGA presented a cheque for $100,000 to support Team Australia at the Special Olympics Asia Pacific Games.  IGA and SUPA IGA supermarkets in NSW and the ACT raised the funds through a number of in-store promotions that included fundraising activities and sale of selected products.

The first international Special Olympics, being held in Newcastle from December 7-10, that bring 32 nations from the Asia Pacific Region together, are the largest multi-sport event for people with intellectual disability to be held in Australia.
