Epilepsy Action Australia launches Self Care September

September 15, 2020

Epilepsy Action Australia has launched a new campaign called, ‘Self Care September’. The month-long initiative comes with the message: ‘It makes sense to put yourself first,’ and encourages all Australians to look after themselves by joining four weekly interactive programs led by celebrities and thought leaders.

The programs, led by Wiggle Lachy Gillespie, yoga gurus Malinda Hayward and Katy Graczer, educator Luke Eisenhuth and social enterprise leader Dr Jayne Meyer-Tucker, focus on four wellness pillars: Physical Health, Nutrition, Mental Health and Taking Time Out.

“This year has seen a dramatic increase in stress, and here at Epilepsy Action Australia we have seen this firsthand, with the demand on our services greater than ever,” CEO, Carol Ireland said. “Self care is a huge priority right now, not only for those living with epilepsy, but for all of us.”

In the first week ambassadors Malinda Hayward and Luke Eisenhuth will lead physical health programs. Hayward is a yoga teacher living with epilepsy, and Eisenhuth, a leading educator, has a serious, and rare form of epilepsy called Landau Kleffner syndrome. The week two nutrition program will explore the importance of nourishing the soul and involves a surprise guest. Week three will see EAA ambassador Meyer-Tucker focus on mental health, discussing tools and skills to manage uncertainty.

The initiative concludes with Time Out week with EAA ambassador Gillespie sharing a special video with a singalong exclusively for children. There will also be online talks, videos and other resources. Check out the EAA Facebook page where the program will be rolled out with sessions scheduled weekly.
